VNTR stands for Variable Number of Tendon Repeat. Main function of the VNTR is to form the RELP i.e. Restricted Fragment Length Polymorphism. Whenever the DNA is treated with the RE, the DNA gets fragmented and that length of all these fragments is known as RELP.

Important points on VNTR :-

1. It was discovered by Alec Jaffery.

2. It is type of mini settlite.

3. It's is not meant for coding of any RNA or DNA so it is the non coding sequence.

4. It's number is variable chromosome to chromosome even to the homologous chromosome.

5. VNTR is considered as the very Basis of the DNA fingerprint.

6. In this the recognition site is made up of palandromic sequence.

7. RELP of each and everyone is very unique but it can be same for the monozygotic twins.
