Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

x = -9, y = -3.4

You can get this by adding through and getting the x's to cancel. Then use the y value to solve for the x.

The value of

x = -9

y = -17/5

Given

The equations are

  • -2.1x + 4y = 5.3
  • ⇒-21x + 40y = 53
  • ⇒21x - 40y = -53____(1)

and

  • 2.1x - 5.5y = -0.2
  • ⇒21x - 55y = -2_____(2)

To Find

  • The value of x and y

Solution

Substracting equation (1) from (2) we have

⇒21x - 55y - 21x + 40y= -2 + 53

⇒ -15y = 51

⇒ y = -51/15

y = -17/5

Putting the value of y in (1) we have

⇒ 21x - 40(-17/5) = -53

⇒ 21x +136 = -53

⇒ 21x = -189

⇒x = -189/9

x = -9
