In the year 1969, R.H. Whittaker has classified the living organisms into five kingdoms which includes of the following such as Fungi, Animalia, Plantae, Protista and Monera.

He had grouped the organisms based upon the criteria like

cell structure (eukaryote/prokaryote),

nutrition (heterotrophs/autotrophs),

complexity (multicellular/unicellular),

phylogeny ( relation to other eukaryotes/prokaryotes) and

lifestyle ( decomposers/consumers/producers).
