Using a simple experiment how can you prove that magnesium is placed above zinc in reactivity series.

Answer:

We can prove magnesium is placed above zinc

If we take ZnSO4 + Mg it will form MgSo4 + Zn

we can see that Mg has displaced zinc so from this reaction we can show Mg is placed above Zinc

Add magnesium ribbon to zinc sulphate or zinc chloride solution, immediately a deposit of silvery grey metallic zinc will be seen on the Magnesium, the reacting is vigorous and may also be exothermic in nature, this proves that Mg is far more electropositive and metallic than Zn and is above Zn in the metal activity series.
