Cationic hydrolysis refers to the hydrolysis of salts that have strong conjugate acid and weak conjugate base.

Normally what happens is that in cationic hydrolysis, the resulting solution is acidic in nature. Example is hydrolysis of ammonium chloride salt. NH4Cl.

Anion hydrolysis is the hydrolysis of salts having weak conjugate acid and strong conjugate base. For example is hydrolysis of sodium ethanoate salt.
