Question :-

Using parallelogram law. find the magnitude and direction of the resultant, when the angle between the two vectors is θ is 0° and when θ is 90°.

Answer :-

Let the two vectors be vector A and vector B.

And their magnitudes be A and B, respectively.

A/c to parallelogram law,

vector A + vector B = √( A² + B² + 2AB cosθ )

_______________

Case I : when θ = 0°

Then,

vector A + vector B

= √( A² + B² + 2AB cos0° )

= √( A² + B² + 2AB × 1 )

= √( A² + B² + 2AB )

= √[ (A + B)² ]

= A + B

_______________

Case II : when θ = 90°

Then,

vector A + vector B

= √( A² + B² + 2AB cos90° )

= √( A² + B² + 2AB × 0 )

= √( A² + B² )
