Calcium's chemical symbol is Ca. Calcium's oxidation number is +2.

Chloride's chemical symbol is Cl. Chloride's oxidation number is -1.

Ca +2 Cl -1
Ca 1 Cl 2 (Switch the two numbers)
Ca1Cl2 HOWEVER if there's only one of an element, don't write the 1 CaCl2
