a = 3x \:  \:  \:   \:  \:  b = 8y

(3x + 8y) {}^{2}  = 3x \times 3x + 8y \times 8y + 2 \times 3x \times 8y

 = 9x {}^{2}  + 64 {y}^{2} + 48xy
