Step-by-step explanation:

(i) p(x) = x3 – 2x2 – 4x – 1; g(x) = x + 1

Let g(x) = x + 1

x + 1 = 0

x = -1

P(-1) = (-1)3 – 2(-1)2 – 4(-1) – 1

= -1 -2 x 1 + 4 – 1

= -4 + 4 = 0

∴ Remainder = 0.

(ii) p(x) = 4x3 – 12x2 + 14x – 3; g(x) = 2x – 1

(iii) p(x) = x3 – 3x2 + 4x + 50 ; g(x) = x – 3

Let g(x) = x – 3

x – 3 = 0

x = 3

p(3) = 33 – 3(32) + 4(3) + 50

= 27 – 27 + 12 + 50 = 62

∴ Remainder = 62.
