The freshly laid roads glistened in the sunlight. The hills were dark green, completely covered with vegetation. The grass, creepers and tall trees all seemed to come together, to make the hillside as beautiful as possible. And from amidst the greenery, exotic orchids peeped through. Some were pearly white while others were a deep pink. Yet others had a bluish tinge to them.
The other side of the road was equally charming. It faced a gorge. A small stream flowed along the road. The road was higher, while the stream meandered in the valley. By the banks were well demarcated paddy fields, with a host of people labouring away.
It was a rather peaceful area, with few houses. The people were a sober lot, for the village courtyard was buzzing with activity in the evening, but the decibel levels were not high at all.
The simple, village folks seemed to be grateful and God-fearing. Before they left the village courtyard, each person looked up at the sky and prayed. The stars smiled down at them from the clear, smog-free sky. And God seemed to bless them all with a good night's rest.
