V.N.Naik born on 20th June 1933 in Kolhapur, his mother Laxmibai and Narayan Naik. He passed his matriculation from Kolhapur, took his higher education from Mumbai University. During his college life he was very much active in all academic activities, he was also great actor played drama as well(1953). He started his career as Scientist in BSI Shillong Regional Center, he worked there for few years and later left the job and joined as Assistant Professor in R.P.College Osmanabad. He published Flora of Osmanabad District during his service in Osmanabad.
He took his career to the then Marathwada University, Aurnagabad in 1973 as Assistant Professor in the Department of Botany, under his able leadership and his fellow colleagues developed Herbarium and Botanical Garden which witnessed as best of its kind. During his stay he published so many books that were useful for students and researchers of Botany. He contributed Herbarium Hand Book in 1974, Key to Angiospermic Families, Vanaspati Shastra, Text Book Taxonomy of Angiosperms widely used throughout the world. (Tata Mc Graw Hill Publications, 1984), Monumental work Flora of Marathwada (1998), Marathwadyatil Vanaushadi, Identification of Common Indian Medicinal Plants, Maharashtratil Vanaspati Shastra ani Vana Sampada, and several other books. He published more than 100 research papers and articals in different magazines and journals of international repute. Under his guidance 15 students got PhD.

He passed away on 19th October 2012, his memories and contribution to us will be preserved for ever….
