The valencies for different elements of the periodic table is given below:
- Hydrogen - 1
- Fluorine - 1 ( Note that the valency of all the elements in a group is the same as the valency of one element. For example, the valency of chlorine, bromine, iodine will also be the same.)
- Nitrogen - 3,5
- Oxygen - 2
- Sulphur - 2,4,6
- Boron - 3
- Carbon - 4
- Silicon - 4
- Helium - 0 ( valency of all the noble gases is zero.)
- Sodium - 1 (potassium and silver)
- Magnesium, calcium, barium, lead, zinc, Nickel, manganese- 2
- copper and mercury - 2,1
- Iron - 2,3
- Aluminium - 3
- Chromium - 3,6
- Gold - 1,3
- Platinum - 2,4
( Valency of an element is the number of electrons in the outer shell. The valency will be equal to several electrons in the outermost shell of it is less than or equal to 4. If it is greater than 4, we will find the valency after subtracting from 8.)
