Answer :

Factors on which g depends are

[a] Height [b] Depth [c] Shape of earth [d] Rotation of earth.

• [a] Height : “g” decreases as one moves away from the surface of the Earth.

it is govern by formula , g’= g [ 1 - (2h/R) ] , where h is height , R is radius

hence when height h = R , g’=0.

• [b] Depth : The value of gravitational acceleration decreases if one moves towards the center of the Earth. It is govern by formula g’=g [ 1-(d/R)]

where d is depth, R is radius

• [c] Shape : As earth is not a perfect sphere , it radius along eq is greater than that of poles. ie Re > Rp

Now as we know g = GM/R^2 that is g depends inversely on square of radius so

“g”at poles is greater than that of value g at equator.

Hence value of g decreases when we move from poles to equator.
