let the present age of vandana vbe x yrs

and present age of her son be y yrs

according to the condition

x=2y----eqn 1

after 4 yrs

vandanas age=x+4

her sons age=y+4

before 9 yrs his sons age =y-9 yrs

x+4=4(y-9)

x+4=4y-36

4y-x=40

putting the value of x=2y

4y-2y=40

2y=40

y=20

therefore age of vavadan is 2*20=40yrs

age of her son is 20 yrs
