The value of wave length i.e (C)p/(C)v as 1.40 indicates the gas is diatomic, i.e it's atomicity is 2
At. wt.= 2×VD/atomicity=2×16/2= 16 amu

Answer:

16 amu.

Explanation:

Given :

Vapour density= 16

γ = Cp /Cv = 1.40

So its a diatomic gas

∴ Atomicity, n = 2

Atomic mass =  \frac{2 X V.D }{n } = \frac{2 X 16 }{2}  = 16 amu.
