Rowing speed in still water is 8km/h

Speed of the water current is 4km/h

Given data :

Downstream speed = 24km/2h = 12km/h

Upstream speed = 8km/2h= 4km/h

Let,the rowing speed = x km/h

And current speed = y km/h

So,

x+y = 12 ...(1)

And, x-y = 4 ...(2)

If we subtract (2) from (1)

We will get

(x+y)-(x-y) = 12-4

x+y-x+y = 8

2y = 8

y = 4

Now, putting the value of 'y' into (1) we get,

x+4 =12

x= 12-4

x = 8

So, the rowing speed is 8km/h. (Answer)

And the current speed is 4km/h. (Answer)
