Once upon a time in a kingdom there lived a king. One day he wanted to know how much people loved him and so he ordered everyone to bring something for him and tell him why they brought it.
As expected everyone brought expensive gifts like gold, silver and cattle to please the king. However, there was a poor small girl who brought a fistful salt. On seeing this, the king was very angry and told his guards to throw her into jail.
The girl told the cook to add extra salt in the king's food. The king gets angry at this. Again in the next meal, she told the cook not to any salt in the food. Again, this angered the king.
Finally the girl explained everything to the king and he realised the worth of salt. This time the girl said, "You are as dear as salt to me." This made the king happy and ordered his ministers to arrange a grand feast along with expensive gifts for her.
