After the decline of the Harappan civilization, a new culture originated and flourished in the same region.


It spread across Ganga-Yamuna Plain slowly. This culture was Aryan culture.


Aryans settled down on the banks of river Sindhu (Indus) and Saraswati.


Vedic civilization flourished on the banks of river Saraswati, which is no more in existence.

The Vedic age is the period covered c. 1500 - c. 500 BCE.

This is the history of the north-western Indian subcontinent which initiated at the end of the Indus valley civilization and the second urbanization.

River Saraswathi is one of the rivers of Rigvedic fame since it is found in the Rig Vedas and Later Vedic era.

The river has great historical importance as it is considered in the first part of the Rig Vedas.

And the Vedic people lived on its banks during the 2nd millennium BCE.
