ANSWER :-

Vegetative reproduction is the most commonly found method of reproduction. This method has  several different types within itself and those types are as follows-

  • Fragmentation- The thallus breaks into small fragments and each fragment give srise to a new plant. For example- Ulothrix, Spirogyra, Zygnema.
  • Cell division or fission- This is the simplest method of propagation and is commonly found in unicellular algae, desmids and diatoms. Unicellular algal cells divide mitotically to form two daughter cells of which each grow into independent individual organisms.
  • Hormogonia- It is a characteristic method of reproduction in blue-green algae. The trichome breaks into motile segments called "hormogonia". For example- Nostoc, Oscillatoria, etc.
  • Tubers- On the rhizoids and lower nodes of chara, tubers are formed which after detaching, produce independent plants. For example- Cladophora.
  • Budding- In some algae, bud like structures are formed which eventually get separated from the parent plant by the help of "septa" and form new plants. For example- Protosiphon.
