It is verified that multiplication is commutative i.e. "a * b = b * a"

Commutative Property of Operations :

  • Operation 'x' is said to be communicative in nature if the order of operators does not matter
  • Thus, 'a x b' = 'b x a', implies that the 'x' operation is commutative.
  • Multiplication operation is commutative as "a * b" has the same result as "b * a".

Verifying Commutative Property for Multiplication :

Let us take the 2 operators a = 11/15 and b = (-7)/6

The operation between them is multiplication

LHS : ( a * b)

         = a * b\\

         =\frac{11}{15} * \frac{-7}{6}  \\

         =\frac{11*(-7)}{15*6}

         =\frac{-77}{90}

RHS : ( b * a)

         = b * a \\

         =\frac{-7}{6} * \frac{11}{15}   \\

         =\frac{(-7)*11}{6*15}

         =\frac{-77}{90}

As LHS = RHS, so it is verified that a * b = b * a.

Hence, it is proved that multiplication is commutative.
