Aim: To verify the polygon law of forces.

Apparatus Required: Universal force table, Strings , Weights , Hangers , drawing sheets

Theory: This law states that “if a number of coplanar, concurrent forces Is represented in magnitude and direction by the sides of a polygon taken in order then their resultants represented in magnitude and direction by the closing side of the polygon but in opposite order”.

Procedure:

Step 1. Join the hangers with the string and on other end with the ring through the thread.

Step 2. Centralised the ring by lifting the weights on it.

Step 3. Mark the position of threads with the help of mirror and note it.

Step 4: Using the vector diagram, calculate the percentage error.

Precautions:

(1). clean the apparatus

(2). The thread must be smooth.

(3). Ring should be carefully centralized.
