solution.

first look at these rules:

if we add -2 and 1 we would subtract, as the signs are different. then we put the sign of the larger number, in this case (-)2.

-2 + 1

= 2-1

= -1.

if we add -4 and -6, i.e. two negatives, we will add 4 and 6 as usual, then put the negative sign.

-4 + -6

= -10.

use this to help you out.

"same signs, add and keep

different signs subtract,

take the sign of the larger number

then you'll be exact."

now lets see the answers.

property given༄ (a+b)=(b+a)

so proving them,

(i) -10, 6

༄ (-10 + 6) = (6 + (-10))

༄(-4) = (-4)

༄LHS =RHS

hence verified.

(ii) 15, 18

༄ (15+18) = (15+18)

༄ 33 =33

༄LHS = RHS

hence verified.

(iii) -16, -5

༄ (-16 + (-5)) = (-5 + (-16))

༄ (-21) = (-21)

༄ LHS = RHS

hence verified.

(iv)20, -12

༄ (20 + (-12)) = (-12 + 20)

༄ 8 = 8

༄ LHS = RHS

hence verified.
