1. The first capital of Cholas was Uraiyur. Vijayalaya who is considered as the founder of Chola empire captured Tanjore and made it the capital. Later, Rajendra Chola I constructed new capital, Gangaikonda Cholapuram.

2. The market places were known as Mandi in History. Every commodity was available in this Mandi.

3. The Vijayanagaras were defeated in the battle of Tallikota or Rakasi Tangadi in 1565 by the alliance of Bijapur, Ahmed nagar, Bidar and Golconda Sultans. Aliya Ramaraya led Vijayanagara faced a severe defeat.

4. Ajmer was the capital of Chahmanas in 12th Century. Ajmer was constructed by Ajayaraja II as Ajayameru located in Rajasthan. The famous dargah of Sufi saint Mohinuddin Chisti is located at Ajmer.

5. Devdasis were the females who were married to a deity by her parents. She is considered as the slave of God. Deva - God; Dasi - slave. This system was prevelant in Southern India and some parts of West India.

6. Vasco da Gama discovered the sea route to India in 16th Century. He was Portuguese navigator who landed near Calicut in 1498.
