VI. APPLICATION

1. Earth releases about 44-46 Tw of heat, in fact heat can be converted into
other forms of energy that follows the low of conservation of energy. At present
a part of electrical energy in the Philippines is derived from electrical energy.
Briefly explain why our country cannot depend on this alternative source of
energy alone.

It is not viable and feasible currently for a country as big as India to make the shift from millions of electricity dependent homes and offices to solar /renewable energy.

Explanation :

  • Switching from one energy source to another will undoubtedly take some time as new power plants and infrastructure are required like solar panels, motors etc.
  • Shifting to renewable energy doesn’t mean that a small group of people choose a new way to power their homes and offices, it means millions of companies, offices, schools, transport services  etc need to re-evaluate their means of money, how, when and where they source their energy from and this would require a lot of time.
  • In order for  businesses or homes to rely completely on solar power, the owners would need to live in sunny areas and use batteries to store excess energy for rainy seasons or during overcast weather.
  • While technology is advancing quickly, and there are successful ways to  generate energy even on overcast days, this obviously is not sustainable yet to fuel entire nations.
  • Thus, in the meantime we can slowly but surely make efforts to use solar or renewable energy alongside electrical energy and try to reduce our dependency on conventional means of electricity.
