Vimala asked to her father that why did he go to USA?

There are 2 kinds of speeches :

1. Direct speech
2. Indirect or reported speech.

Direct speech :

The subject directly addresses or talks to the second person.

Eg : I asked , " How is Ray ?"

Here I am directly addressing the listener or the second person.

Indirect or reported speech :

Here the act of talking or saying is already been done and now is being told or addressed to someone else.

Rules for forming reported speech are :

• Use the word that after the subject.
• Identify the tense and change it into past form.
• Change the directly addressed words into indirect ones . That is from first person to third person. Eg : you - she/he/it , they - they

Eg : I asked how was Ray.

Here I the subject hasn't changed but is changed into was and the word that is used as well.
