Virtual ground of an op-amp means:

1 point

(a) Terminal is grounded directly

(b) The terminal is not physically grounded but terminal voltage is zero due to the other terminal is connected to the ground due to op-amp properties.)(d) None of the above

The terminal is not physically grounded but terminal voltage is zero due to other terminal is grounded

  • A virtual ground is a node of the circuit that has a steady reference potential, Although it is not directly connected to reference potential.
  • This makes the calucation more easier in calucation of voltage and easy to understand
  • For an ideal op-amp

         Gain=\frac{V_{0} }{V_{in} }

  • As gain is ininite for an ideal op-amp

         V_{in} =0\\ V_{in} =V_{2}-V_{1}=0

  • If the terminal at V₁ is grounded the potential V₂ also becomes zero although it is not connected to the ground
