1) doctors have been using the stethoscope for two centuries to assess the hearts, lungs and bowels of patients by listening to the internal sounds of their bodies.

2) Blood pressure is measured in millimeters of mercury (mm Hg). A blood pressure measurement has two numbers: The top number (systolic) is the pressure of the blood flow when your heart muscle contracts, pumping blood. The bottom number (diastolic) is the pressure measured between heartbeats.

3) A full blood count is a common test that's used to diagnose a wide range of illnesses, infections and diseases. This test gives your doctor information about the numbers and development of cells in your blood (red cells, white cells, and platelets).

4) When you exercise and your muscles work harder, your body uses more oxygen and produces more carbon dioxide. To cope with this extra demand, your breathing has to increase from about 15 times a minute (12 litres of air) when you are resting, up to about 40–60 times a minute (100 litres of air) during exercise.
