Why does ice float on water and iron nails sink?

In conclusion the heavier liquid displaces the lighter ice, so the ice floats to the top. But the density of a iron nail is much larger than that of liquid, so it just sinks. ... Whereas the weight of water displaced by an iron nail is less than than its own weight therefore sinking.
