Question :-

Find the value of x and y for the following questions.

4x + 4y = - 4 ; x + 7y = - 19

__________________________

Required Answer :-

4x + 4y = - 4 - (i)

x + 7y = - 19 - (ii)

Multiply equation (ii) by 4,

x + 7y = - 19

x 4

_______________

4x + 28y = - 76 - (iii)

Subtracting eqn (i) from eqn (iii)

4x + 28y = - 76

- 4x - 4y = 4

_____________

24y = - 72

y = - 72/24

y = - 3

Put y = - 3 in equation (ii)

x + 7y = - 19

x + 7 x (-3) = - 19

x + (-21) = - 19

x - 21 = -19

x = - 19 + 21

x = 2

Therefore, (x, y) = (2,-3) is the solution of the given equation.
