Answer:

  • W is potato
  • X is iodine solution
  • Y is blue black color
  • Z is starch i.e carbohydrate.

Explanation:

  • A potato is a tuber, which is an underground modification of a stem. The tuber is the branch of the main stem which accumulates food in it and swells up.
  • Numerous axillary buds, also known as eyes, are developed on the surface of the tuber and are capable of developing into the new plant under favorable conditions.
  • To determine the presence of starch in potatoes, an Iodine test is done using an Iodine solution.
  • When the iodine solution is added to the surface of the potato, it turns blue-black.
  • The presence of a blue color indicates the presence of starch, a type of carbohydrate.
