Answer:
The poem brings to life the fantasy world of the child.The child speaker drifts into an imaginary
situation where he wants his mother to stay at home. He is an adventurous traveller who journeys
to strange lands on his boat. His boat is laden with precious things and is docked at the shore.He
wants his mother to think well before asking him to bring what she desires.He feels that his
mother would want gold.Then he refers to the shimmering streams as golden because most
grains that are ripe turn into golden colour.He talks about the champa flowers that have carpeted
parts of the forest path and look so beautiful.The child promises to collect all these in hundreds
of baskets for his mother.The child asks his mother if she would also be interested in big pearls;
pearls as big as the raindrops in autumn.He would then sail to the island where he would find
such pearls.He thinks pearls tremble on the meadow flowers,drop on the grass and are scattered
on the sand in spray by the sea-waves.The child now shifts his focus towards his brother and
father.He wants to give his brother a pair of horse with wings because he hopes that his brother
will invite him to fly with him in the sky amongst the white clouds.He would gift his father a
magical pen that would write on its own.For his mother, he vows to get the box with the jewels
that kings had lost their kingdoms fighting over.
