To become a Software Engineer (or any other Engineering field) you should have a background in Science.

In India, there are 2 ways:-

After 10th, you could do 2 years of studies in Science and appear for 12th. You will need to appear for Engineering Entrance Exams. You will be getting admissions based on your Entrance Exams result as well as PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Maths) result of 12th. Then you are admitted to 4 years Engineering course.

After 10th, you can directly take admission to 3 years Diploma Course. Remember that your diploma course should have a Computers as a Major to pursue Engineering in Computer Field. After completing Diploma you directly get admitted to 2nd year Engineering (1st Year is exempted. Also there are no entrance tests required).

I hope that helps.

To become a software engineer, you should choose science stream in higher secondary. Physics, Chemistry, Maths (PCM) or Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Biology (PCMB) will work. Remember, don't take biology if you're not interested in the subject. JAVA in optional category.
