Walking at the speed of 5 km / hr from his home, a geek misses his train by 7 minutes. had he walked 1 km / hr faster, he would have reached the station 5 minutes before the actual departure time of the train. find the distance between his home and the station.

Hey there!

Let us take the distance as ' d '

Speed = d / time

First speed = d / 5

Second speed = d / 6

Difference in speed = d / 5 - d / 6 = 6d - 5d / 30 = d / 30

Difference in time = 7 - ( - 5 ) = 12 minutes

12 minutes = 12 / 60 hours = 1 / 5 hours

Equation =

d / 30 = 1 / 5

5d = 30

d = 6

Distance = 6 kilometers

Thanks for asking question

According to the question we know that formula Speed = d / t

and we know that difference in speeds 5km/h and 7 minutes had walked in 1 km / h Then,

 =  \frac{d}{5}  -  \frac{d}{6}  \\   =  \frac{d}{30}

and differences in times => 12 minutes = 1/5 h.

 \frac{d}{30}  =  \frac{1}{5}

5d = 30

d = 6

So, the distance is 6 kilometers

THAT'S SOLVED
