Ventricles have thicker walls than the auricles.

The heart has four chambers:

  • two auricles
  • and two ventricles.

Ventricles have thicker walls than auricles because they have the responsibility to pump out blood to different organs of the body and with higher pressure than the auricles.

  • The right ventricle supplies deoxygenated blood to the lungs.
  • The left ventricle supplies oxygenated blood to the body parts.
  • The right atrium continuously receives blood from the two veins of the body: the superior and the inferior venae cavae.
  • The left atrium receives the oxygenated blood back from the lungs through one of the four pulmonary veins.
