Walter Kerr has argued that comedy, at bottom, is pessimistic, tragedy optimistic. Is he right?

Comedy is more based on the feeling that humans are silly and mean and tragedy is based on thefeeling that some humans have bigger ideas than themselves. So yes, it has a point, but I think those views are only the two sides of the same coin.


Completely disagree. (Good) comedy is just truth. It holds up the mirror to the world we live in. That means there's going to be bad news sometimes. And sometimes great news. But it just points out what's there, nothing more or less.


I don't think so, basically it can be still right, but there is so many moving factors, after all we are only humans, we understand and see things so differently: how we have learned and experienced em'. It's hard to change
