What is an ionic compound?

Compounds having ionic bonds are called ionic compiund.

It is the force of attraction which keep opposite charge together. Ionic bond is always between a cation (positively charged ion) and an anion (negatively charged ion). When any metal let's take sodium is provided with enough energy to loose an electron , also know as ionisation enthalpy then it loses electron. It means that electron is removed from the outermost orbital of an atom. Now suppose any electronegative non metal is present, lets take chlorine.than it will attract electron towards it which will lead to formation of ionic compound , NaCl. Where Na is having +1 oxidation state and Cl is having -1.

HOPE THIS HELP YOU..❤️❤️
