He was not a mathematician, he was a cryptologist who solved the coding machine, Enigma, used in the World War 2 by the Germans. He was later charged with homosexuality. He made his first coding machine called Christopher, named after his best friend and first love. Christopher died of some form of tuberculosis before Alan wanted to confess his love to Christopher. And, yes. He was gay.
