Answer:
Tolkien is famous for inserting his own voice into his novels, and in The Hobbit, he holds our hand through the entire journey, often using the terms “we” or “us” to describe himself and the audience. In the film, Tolkien's voice is replaced by Bilbo's in an introduction that sets the scene for the story that follows.
Now, more than 70 years after Tolkien first published those words, the hobbit himself, Bilbo Baggins, is set to appear in a third movie inspired by the book. “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies“ picks up where “The Desolation of Smaug” left off.
