Water (density=1000 kg/m^3) and kerosene ( density= 800 kg/m^3) are filled in two identical cylindrical vessels. Both vessels have small holes at their bottom. the speed of the water and kerosene coming out of their holes are v1 and v2 respectively. select the correct option and explain the reason:
1) v1 = v2
2) v1 = 0.8 x v2
3) 0.8 x v1 = v2
4) v1 = sq root of 0.8 x v2

Answer:

v1 = v2

The velocity of efflux does not depend on the density of the liquid. It only depends on the height h (given same in the question) and acceleration due to gravity g (constant value here).

v1 = v2 = v = `sqrt(2"gh")`
