Water equivalent of a metallic hammer of mass 1.8 kg is 0.48 kg. Calculate the specific heat of the metal ( in kJ/kg). The specific heat of water is 4.2 kJ/kg KAns =1.12

S - specific heat of water

according to definition of water equivalent,

Q = m * s * ∆T = W * S * ∆T

=> m*s = W * S

=> s = W * S / m = 0.48 * 4.2 / 1.8

= 1.12 kJ/kg-K .....
