Water flows into a tank of 60m*40m at the base through a pipe whose cross-section is 2decimetres*1.5decimetre at the speed of 8km per hour. At what time will the water be 5m deep?

Volume of water up to  5m,

V =2400 *5=12000 m³..........(1)

Now  dimensions of pipe=

(2/10)*(1.5/10) =3/100 m²

Let the time taken to fill the tank upto 5m  = x hrs

The volume of water coming from pipe in x hrs

V= Cross section *Length of water........(2)

length of water in x hrs

=8 km  *x

L=8000 *x  m³

From(2)

V = 3/100 * 8000 x=240x

Thus from (1)

240x =12000

x=12000/240=50 hrs

Thus the time taken to fill tank upto 5 m is 50 hrs
