Water is flowing through two horizontal pipes of different diameters which connected together. In the first pipe, the speed of water is 4 m/s and pressure is 2 x 10 4 N m - 2 . Calculate the speed and pressure of water is second pipe. The diameters of pipe are 3 cm and 6 cm, respectively.

The speed of water is 1 m/s and the pressure is 2.75 x 10^4 Pascal

Explanation:

By using Bernoulli equation:

2 x 104 + ρ x 4^2 / 2 = P + ρv^2 / 2

From equation of continuity

4π(0.015)^2 = vπ(0.03)^2

v = 1 m/s

2 x 10^4 + ρ x 4^2 / 2 = P + ρ / 2

P = 2 x 10^4 + 8000−500

P = 2.75 x 10^4 Pascal

Hence the speed of water is 1 m/s and the pressure is 2.75 x 10^4 Pascal
