When liquid water is confined in a tube, its surface (meniscus) has a concave shape because water wets the surface and creeps up the side. Mercury does not wet glass - the cohesive forces within the drops are stronger than the adhesive forces between the drops and glass.

Answer
⚫Explanation
◾The angle of contact between water and glass is zero whereas between Mercury and glass is obtuse.
◾Hence Cohesive force between molecules of mercury is more than the adhesive force between the molecules of Mercury and glass.
◾Apparently Mercury does not wet glass whereas water does.
