Plants absorb water from the soil with the help of thier roots. transpiration is one of the major process in the day time in plants which helps the water to be pulled. 98% of water absorbed by the plant is again lost in this process (i.e;transpiration). so,water transpired is the water absorbed as this water transpired helps in the absorbtion of water by roots.

Plants absorb water in large quantity because in photosynthesis carbon dioxide and water are used as raw material for the synthesis of glucose. Water is absorbed by root while carbon dioxide is taken from the atmosphere through stomata.
