We can also write Distance formula. [√(x2-x1)(y2-y1)] in this way:
√(x1– x2)+(y1 - y2)
Why?

Answer:

Both are okay. Let me explain.

Step-by-step explanation:

First of all, the formula you gave is wrong

it would be √((x1-x2)^2+(y1-y2)^2)

Now, let me explain why can we write (x2-x1) or (y2-y1) insteed of (x1-x2) and (y1-y2)

first of all (x1-x2)^2=(x1-x2)(x1-x2)={-(x2-x1)}×{-(x2-x1)} = (x2-x1)(x2-x1)=(x2-x1)^2

You see! both of them are okay. same goes for (y1-y2)

its mainly becaues of squre operator. if you squre a negative number youll get a positive number.

We can also write the distance formula √( x2-x1)²+(y2-y1)² as √( x1-x2)²+(y2-y1) ² because of the square weapon..

(1-2)² is equal to 1

and

(2-1)²is also equal to 1
