Answer:

What is the view of Singapore/Malaysian Tamils on Indian Tamils, Tamil Nadu, Cinema and Politics of Tamil Nadu?

Singaporean Tamil here born and raised in Singapore. However I have relatives from Tamil Nadu and have gone there to visit family members. I only recently visited the cities of Salem, Thanjavur, Thiruchirappalli or in short Trichy and Ooty during my time there and as I kid I visited Chennai and Kanyakumari. When I visited for the first time when I was 7, it was a little uncanny because for once I don’t feel like a minority and surrounded by only other Tamil people and I felt I walked into a set of a Tamil movie (I stayed in a rural area where my grandmother lives) and the people there showed me much hospitality and many people especially children were very curious of Singapore.

Additionally I met Indian Tamils in Singapore, mostly workers, and they are usually middle aged men. While some get in trouble with the law due to culture differences, misunderstanding and rowdy behaviour, most are very humble and tend to not interact with Singaporeans very much to avoid trouble which to me is a little sad. I do enjoy talking to them as they showed me genuine respect and they value hard work. Additionaly I met students from Tamil Nadu when I was in college. Some have become really good friends and some really difficult to work with but then again that could be said of any group. So overall it’s mostly positive.
