We get some items made from iron wire is coated with plastic is plastic coated by the process of electroplating why plastic cannot be coated on a metal by the process of electroplating

while plastic its own is not a naturally conductive material, electroplating on plastic is still achevible unlike metal objects or part, plastic material cannot be immersed in a bath and coated instead , a more specialized plating techine

The plastic cannot be coated on a metal by the process of electroplating, because -

• In any electroplating process we need to attach the substance of electroplating coating in the anode which will get ionised and travel to through the electrolyte medium to apply a coating on the substance attached in the cathode.

• Now, ionisation is only possible when the substance is a good conductor of electricity.

• And,we know that plastic cannot conduct electricity. That's why it doesn't get ionised to complete the electroplating process.
