When you hold the ice for too long, your hand becomes very cold. This temperature is not the optimum condition for cells to live. Blood circulation slows in your hand, so the cells are deprived of oxygen. Enzymes don't work very well at low temperatures. So neurons in your hand start firing up to tell your brain to give the signal to drop the ice. therefore we feel a burning sensation when we hold an ice cube for too long hope this was helpful
