We have a cardboard piece sitting on a table in an open field. The air above the cardboard piece exerts a huge pressure on the cardboard in the downward direction. Then why are we able to pick up the cardboard piece easily? If the forces below and above the cardboard are equal, what causes them to be? Do we neglect gravity in this example? What cause the pressure acting in the upward direction?
