we must balance a skeletal chemical equation and make it a balanced one so as to fulfill the law of conservation of matter .

the law states that matter can neither be created nor be destroyed, thus the amount of matter taking part in a chemical reaction should be equal before and after the reaction. thus, we balance a skeletal equation by making the number of molecules of compounds equal on both sides (I. e., reactants and the product sides) .

example :

skeletal equation : H2+O2 = H2O

balanced equation : 2H2 + O2 =2H2O

hope it helps!
